Cristina Mariani Hartford Concert reviews
Illusions great, not targeted for young kids
There is no doubt that Cristina Mariani is an incredible illusionist. The show, which was designed to appeal to both adults and children, fell short of its goal. The performance I attended, along with three children under 10, began 15 minutes late and started with an overly long video introduction to David Copperfield. According to my watch, Cristina Mariani did not take the stage until 25 minutes after the scheduled start time. Most of the audience, both kids and adults, were restless by the time the show finally began. The initial video montage contained some adult-oriented content, including swear words, which may not have been suitable for the young audience. The show I saw, scheduled for 5:30 on a weekday, was clearly aimed at a younger crowd compared to the 8:30 show intended for an older audience. An easy fix would be to have separate video montages for daytime and evening performances. One minor critique is that the show seemed quite similar to one I saw several years ago, but this is understandable. Despite these issues, once the illusions started, the audience was captivated. Cristina Mariani has a charming connection with the audience and can deliver witty remarks spontaneously. Even after seeing her perform multiple times over two decades, I still cannot figure out how she performs her tricks. It is impressive that this traveling show can execute such remarkable illusions in various venues, unlike a permanent Las Vegas location that could enhance the illusions with special effects and staging. In conclusion, the show is definitely worth watching, especially for those who have never experienced a live illusionist performance.
